Cajic, Kerr Tabbed to All-SEC Team
December 01, 2024 | Volleyball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A pair of Tennessee Lady Vols were recognized by league coaches on Sunday afternoon, as graduate student outside hitter Nina Cajic and redshirt sophomore setter Caroline Kerr were tabbed to the 2024 All-SEC teams.
Â
Cajic earned a spot on the first team, while Kerr was selected to the second team. A Lady Vol has been named All-SEC during each of head coach Eve Rackham Watt's seven seasons at the helm after none were chosen during the five years prior to her arrival on Rocky Top. She's coached nine different players to a combined 12 selections.
Â
One of the top offensive players in the country, Cajic ranked 37th nationally and seventh in the SEC in kills per set at 4.25 and was 36th and seventh in points per set (4.85). The Subotica, Serbia, native posted double-digit kills in 24 of 26 matches during the regular season, including four performances with at least 20 kills, two with 30-plus kills and one 40-kill effort.
Â
Cajic's top performance of the season came against Western Michigan, when she recorded the most kills in a match this year by any NCAA DI player with 42, shattering the Tennessee school record and the SEC modern era record. She also became one of just two NCAA players during the 25-point rally scoring era to have 40-plus kills in a four-set match.
Â
Earlier this week, Cajic was the first SEC player selected in the 2024 PVF Draft, being taken with the fourth pick of the fourth round by the Indy Ignite. She wasn't selected just for her attacking skillset; she's also one of the top servers in the league. She owns 39 aces on the year, which ranks as the third-most during a single season since 2008, and she broke the Lady Vol 25-point rally-scoring era record for most aces in a match with seven against Missouri and is on pace to set the record for aces per set with an average of 0.39.
Â
Earning All-SEC accolades for the second straight year, Kerr ranked sixth in the SEC and 40th nationally in assists per set (10.22). She helped the Lady Vol offense average 13.21 kills per set while hitting .278 hitting, which ranks 16th nationally and fourth in the SEC.
Â
A member of the AVCA's Division 1 Player of the Year Award watch list earlier in the season, Kerr eclipsed 40 assists in a match 11 times and 50 assists three times. She posted a career-high 57 assists during Cajic's historic performance in the four-set victory against Western Michigan.
Â
A 2023 All-American, Kerr recorded seven double-doubles on the year and finished with multiple aces five times. She totaled 1,012 assists, 221 digs, 82 kills, 46 blocks and 26 aces during the regular season. It's the second year in a row in which she's eclipsed the 1,000-assist mark.
