Lanier Tabbed a USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Chaz Lanier of the University of Tennessee men's basketball team is a USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday afternoon.
The USBWA—United States Basketball Writers Association—selects five honorees each week. Lanier is joined by Utah State's Mason Falslev, Duke's Cooper Flagg, Columbia's Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa and Wisconsin's John Tonje.
This is the third weekly honor in two days for Lanier, who also took home SEC Player of the Week and Lute Olson National Player of the Week accolades Monday.
A fifth-year guard from Nashville, Tenn., Lanier averaged 25.5 points per game in the Volunteers' two victories at the Baha Mar Championship in Nassau, Bahamas. He added 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game, alongside a 13-of-22 (59.1 percent) 3-point clip, en route to tournament MVP honors.
Lanier dropped a season-high 26 points in a Thursday night against Virginia, shooting 6-of-12 from long range to tie a then-career best in makes. His play helped the Volunteers to a 64-42 win in the event opener.
The next day, Lanier totaled 25 points in a dominant 77-62 triumph over No. 13/14 Baylor in the tournament final. He scored all his points during a first half in which he shot 7-of-8 from 3-point range, including 5-of-5 in the opening four minutes, to set a new a career high in makes and tie for the fifth-most ever by a Tennessee player.
The 6-foot-5, 207-pounder is in his first season at Tennessee after spending the past four years at North Florida, where he was a 2023-24 First Team All-Atlantic Sun designee.
This is the third time in the last two seasons a Volunteer has earned USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week plaudits, as Dalton Knecht did so back-to-back in 2023-24, on both Jan. 16 and Jan. 23.
Lanier and No. 7/6 Tennessee (6-0) take the Food City Center hardwood Wednesday at 4 p.m. against UT Martin, live on SEC Network+.
