Tamari Key Chosen For NCAA Above The Rim Summit
January 03, 2024 | Women's Basketball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Three Southeastern Conference women's basketball student-athletes, including Tennessee's Tamari Key, have been selected to participate in the NCAA Above the Rim Summit during Final Four Weekend in Cleveland on April 5-7.
Â
Representing the SEC at the three-day immersive leadership program will be Key along with Arkansas' Makayla Daniels and Florida's Faith Dut. This marks the second year of the Above the Rim Summit. Three SEC student-athletes were among the 13 participants last year, including Key's former Lady Vol teammate, Jordan Walker.
Â
Key, a December 2023 graduate in communication studies, is vice chair of the SEC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and SEC Women's Basketball Leadership Council. She attended the 2023 SEC Spring Meetings, sharing her perspective and offering input on issues that impact the college experience. During her career, she has been a four-year women's basketball representative for UT's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was a 2020-21 graduate of the VOLeaders Academy.
On the court, Key has averaged 8.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per contest during her career, shooting 59.2 percent from the field while starting 93 of 110 games played. She is the school's all-time record-holder for blocks in a career (305) and blocks in a season (119) as well as triple-doubles in a career (2). She has been a two-time SEC All-Defensive Team member (2020-21, 2021-22) and an All-SEC Second Team recipient (2021-22), and was a finalist for the Lisa Leslie Award (nation's top center) in 2021-22 as well.
The aim of the Above the Rim Summit is to provide education and career development support to women's basketball student-athletes. The participants will be introduced to numerous subject matter experts who will share their expertise on career navigation. They will also be immersed in personal and professional development activities designed to provide an introspective picture of who they are and how they work best with others.
The inaugural group in 2023 engaged in brand building, media training, and financial literacy, and they also had an opportunity to gain more knowledge about the world of professional basketball from industry professionals and former players.
