KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- In head coach Joe Kirt's second year at the helm, the Lady Vols will look to build off a 2022 season in which they captured a third straight SEC East Division Championship, tying South Carolina for the title with 15 points in divisional play while finishing second overall in the league with 22 points.
Â
The 2023 season is set to kick off on Aug. 8 with an exhibition match at Alabama followed by another exhibition at home against Jacksonville State on Aug. 12. The season will begin in earnest when UT welcomes California for the home opener on August 17. Three additional home matches against ETSU (Aug. 24), Indiana (Aug. 31), and Radford (Sept. 7), and three away contests at Lipscomb (Aug. 20), SMU (Aug. 27) and Florida Atlantic (Sept. 10) round out the non-conference slate.
Â
In conference play, UT will welcome five teams to Regal Stadium, facing Arkansas (Sept. 15), Florida (Sept. 21), Kentucky (Oct. 5), Georgia (Oct. 13), and Texas A&M (Oct. 22). The Big Orange will face South Carolina (Sept. 24), Mississippi State (Sept. 29), LSU (Oct. 8), Missouri (Oct. 19), and Vanderbilt (Oct. 26) on the road.
Â
Including the preseason matchup against Alabama, UT's 2023 opponent lineup will feature contests against six teams that were ranked in the Top-25 or receiving votes in the final 2022 United Soccer Coaches rankings.
Â
The SEC Tournament will be in Pensacola, Fla., for just the second time this season, having previously been held in Orange Beach, Ala., for 18 of 19 seasons. The conference tournament will begin on Oct. 28 and run through Nov. 5.
