Lindsey Earns All-America Honors from Baseball America
June 28, 2023 | Baseball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee's Andrew Lindsey became the second Vol to earn All-America honors this season after he was tabbed a third-team selection by Baseball America on Wednesday.
Lindsey joins fellow right-handed pitcher AJ Russell as UT hurlers to garner All-America acclaim for the 2023 season after helping lead the Volunteers to their sixth Men's College World Series appearance.
Lindsey's 2.90 ERA and 1.11 WHIP were the lowest among all qualifying pitchers on the team (min. 1 IP/G) while his 71.1 innings pitched ranked fourth. The junior right hander posted three victories, struck out 73 batters and issued just 19 walks over 21 appearances while making nine starts.
After starting the season in the bullpen, Lindsey was thrust into the weekend rotation midway through SEC play and flourished as Tennessee's game one starter. The move played a major part in the Vols turning their season around, as they won 11 of their final 15 SEC games after starting 5-10 in league play while notching wins in six of the nine games Lindsey started on the year.
Lindsey gave the Big Orange four quality starts with impressive outings against No. 2 Vanderbilt, No. 15 Kentucky and No. 9 South Carolina before dominating his former team with 10 strikeouts over seven innings in Tennessee's victory against Charlotte to open the NCAA Tournament at the Clemson Regional.
The New Johnsonville, Tennessee, native is the 56th player in program history to earn All-America honors and the ninth UT pitcher to be named an All-American under head coach Tony Vitello and pitching coach Frank Anderson (2018-present).
Lindsey is expected to be selected in the upcoming 2023 MLB Draft, which will take place from July 9-11.
