June 10, 2023 | Baseball
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Game one of the NCAA Hattiesburg Super Regional between Tennessee and Southern Miss has been suspended due to inclement weather, consisting of thunderstorms and continuous lightning in the area.
The game included two different weather delays before the decision was made to suspend play for the day with the Golden Eagles leading 4-0 with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The two teams are scheduled to resume and finish game one of the series on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT (noon ET) with game two of the series slated to begin at 2 p.m. CT (3 ET) or 55-minutes following the conclusion of game one should it run long. Game one will be televised on ESPNU while game two will air on ESPN.
The first delay of the afternoon took place with UT threatening in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Vols had two on with two outs for Christian Moore before the game was halted with a 2-2 count due to lightning detected in the area.
The total time of the delay was 1-hour, 35-minutes before action resumed. However, play lasted just 13 minutes before the weather put a stop to things once again as more lightning was detected in the area.
Following a nearly 4-hour delay, tournament officials decided to suspend play for the remainder of the day and restart action on Sunday.
