Tamari Key Headed To SEC Spring Meetings
May 17, 2023 | Women's Basketball
Four Southeastern Conference student-athletes will participate in SEC Spring Meetings scheduled to begin May 30 in Sandestin, Fla., and Tennessee women's basketball standout Tamari Key will be among them.
Â
The group will participate in meetings throughout the week to share their perspective and offer input on issues that impact their college experience. In addition to Key, the student-athletes are Texas A&M's Henry Coleman III (Men's Basketball), Kentucky's Eli Cox (Football) and Missouri's Jude Dierker (Men's Swimming & Diving).Â
Â
Following a dinner with Commissioner Greg Sankey to begin the week, the group will meet with the SEC's presidents and chancellors, athletics directors, faculty athletics representatives and senior woman administrators throughout the week. The agenda also includes a conversation with SEC Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Katie O'Neal on the topic of student-athlete mental health.
Â
The four student-athletes who are scheduled to attend Spring Meetings are all members of one of the SEC's Student-Athlete Leadership Councils or the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Coleman chairs the SEC Men's Basketball Leadership Council and Cox leads the SEC Football Leadership Council, while Dierker and Key are vice chairs of the SEC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and SEC Women's Basketball Leadership Council.
Â
A rising redshirt senior, the 6-foot-6 Key has started 93 of 99 career games at center for Tennessee, shooting 59.4 percent from the field and averaging 8.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.0 blocks. She holds UT records for most blocks in a season (119), highest block average in a season (3.500), most blocks in a career (277) and highest block average in a career (3.08). She also stands first for most triple-doubles in a career (2) at UT and is tied for the most in a season with one each in 2020-21 & 2021-22.
Â
The 2021-22 All-SEC recipient and two-time SEC All-Defensive Team honoree is a three-time SEC Student-Athlete Leadership Council and SAAC Representative. Additionally, she is a 2020-21 product of UT's VOLeaders Academy and a member of the 2021-22 SEC Community Service Team.
