April 19, 2023 | Baseball
LUBBOCK, Texas – Tennessee sophomore pitcher Drew Beam was named to the watch list for the 2023 College Baseball Foundation Pitcher of the Year, as announced by the organization on Wednesday.
Beam was one of 61 pitchers included on the watch list for the award, which will crown a winner at the end of the season.
The Murfreesboro, Tennessee, native enters week 10 of the regular season with a 4-2 record to go along with a 3.73 ERA in nine starts. Beam has struck out 43 batters over 41.0 innings of work and has the lowest ERA among the Vols' weekend starting pitchers.
Beam opened the 2023 campaign strong with back-to-back scoreless outings in wins over UC San Diego and Dayton, allowing just four combined hits in 11.1 innings pitched during those two starts. He recently had another impressive performance in the series finale against No. 2 Florida on April 8, holding the Gators' potent lineup to just two runs on four hits in seven innings while tying a career high with 10 strikeouts to lead UT to a much-needed victory.
Beam is one of five hurlers from the Southeastern Conference to make this year's watch list, joining Vanderbilt's Devin Futrell, Arkansas' Hunter Hollan, LSU's Paul Skenes and Arkansas' Hagen Smith.
