March 30, 2023 | Women's Basketball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tennessee's Jordan Walker is one of three Southeastern Conference women's basketball student-athletes who will participate in the inaugural NCAA Above The Rim Summit during Final Four Weekend beginning Friday in Dallas.
Â
Representing the SEC at the three-day immersive leadership program will be Walker as well as Georgia's Diamond Battles and Missouri's Haley Troup. A total of 14 women's basketball student-athletes nationwide were selected to participate in the program.
Â
The aim of the Above The Rim Summit is to provide education and career development support to women's basketball student-athletes. The participants will be introduced to numerous subject matter experts who will share their expertise on career navigation. They will also be immersed in personal and professional development activities designed to provide an introspective picture of who they are and how they work best with others.
Â
The group will engage in brand building, media training and financial literacy, and they will also have an opportunity to gain more knowledge about the world of professional basketball from industry professionals and former players.
Â
A 5-foot-8 guard from Muskegon, Mich., Walker recently completed her collegiate career, playing the past three seasons with Kellie Harper's Lady Vols after spending from 2017-20 at Western Michigan. After starting 54 of 64 games in two playing seasons at WMU, Walker logged 77 starts in 96 games for UT, helping the Big Orange to three consecutive third-place SEC finishes and NCAA Tournament berths, including NCAA Sweet 16 appearances the past two seasons.
Â
Walker tallied 1,359 points, 714 rebounds, 433 assists and 227 steals for her career, averaging 8.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists. As a Lady Vol, she produced 6.3 ppg., 4.1 rpg. and 3.1 apg., tallying 115 and 119 assists, respectively, over the past two seasons to card career bests each year. The gutsy point guard committed only 68 turnovers in 2022-23, registering a 1.75 assist/turnover ratio that ranks No. 5 in the SEC. She also led Tennessee with 20 charges taken this season.
Â
In the classroom, Walker has been equally as committed, earning a bachelor's degree in political science and a minor in communications from Western Michigan in 2020. She followed by earning a master's in business administration (MBA) from UT's Haslam College of Business in 2022 and tackling a second master's in agricultural leadership, education and communication. While working on her MBA, Walker was a summer sales management intern with PepsiCo.
Â
Walker is a two-time member of the SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll. She previously participated in the WBCA's "So You Want To Be A Coach" program in 2021-22, with each student-athlete participating in a two-day workshop during the WBCA Convention at the 2022 NCAA Final Four in Minneapolis.
