March 29, 2023 | Rowing
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The first Pocock CRCA Coaches Poll of the 2023 campaign dropped Wednesday, and Tennessee rowing checked in at 18th nationally, marking the 24th consecutive poll in which the Lady Vols were ranked.
Â
After being ranked every week last season and all but the preseason poll in 2021, the Big Orange are once again considered one of the top teams in the country.
Â
During the first regatta of the spring two weeks ago, Tennessee's top two varsity eight and varsity four boats finished with a combined record of 18-9 at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invite, while the 3V4 lineup recorded a perfect 5-0 record. The competition field was loaded, including No. 3 Yale, No. 12 Duke and No. 19 Indiana, while Alabama, Clemson, Navy, Notre Dame and Wisconsin all received votes in the poll.
Â
The Lady Vol 2V8 crew earned Big 12 Boat of the Week honors for their performances the opening weekend of the spring, compiling a 6-2 slate. The boat posted wins against Alabama, Clemson, Louisville and Wisconsin while consistently notching some of the top times of all the varsity eight lineups in the regatta.
Â
Tennessee returns to action on Saturday, April 1, for a home matchup against Big 12 foes Alabama and Oklahoma. The competition will be held at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and it is free for all fans. Racing begins at 9 a.m. ET and features six events.
