Arora Captures Individual Title at Clover Cup
March 12, 2023 | Women's Golf
MESA, Ariz. – Angela Arora captured the individual title at the Clover Cup on Sunday, carding an impressive 68 in the third round to claim the second-lowest 54-hole score in program history at Longbow Golf Club.
The freshman's 11-under is the second-lowest 54-hole score (relative to par) in Tennessee's record book, following LVFL Anna Newell's 18-under performance (198) at the 2015 Las Vegas Showdown.
Going into the final day of the tournament at -6, Arora continued to dominate in the third round, posting three birdies and an eagle on the front nine. Her 4-under score consisted of only a single bogey and marked her fifth round of par or better since joining the Lady Vols in January 2023.
"This week was great," Arora said. "I hit the ball really well and made a lot of putts. The adrenaline was very high throughout the round today. I came out here this week wanting to win and I am so happy I did."
Arora's victory marks the first individual tournament champion under head coach Diana Cantu. The last Lady Vol to notch a first-place finish was LVFL Mikayla Bardwell during the 2020-21 season, where she tied for the top spot at the Liz Murphey Fall Collegiate Classic with a 54-hole score of 213 (69-74-70).
As a team, Tennessee shot -3 (285) in the final round to finish the Clover Cup in fifth place at +9 overall (873) out of the 14-team field, the team's second-highest finish so far this season.
Emily Hawkins, who competed as an individual, carded four birdies on six holes to post a 73 (+1). The graduate finished tied for 24th place at +5 overall, notching her first top-25 finish as a Lady Vol. Caroline Patterson finished the tournament strong, recording an eagle on a par 5 to log a 69, her fifth round or par or better. The freshman tied for 29th place.
