Nation’s #34 Recruit Kaniya Boyd Inks With Lady Vol Hoops
November 08, 2023 | Women's Basketball
The Tennessee women's basketball program has announced the signing of a four-star guard during the early signing period, receiving a letter of intent from Kaniya Boyd, the nation's No. 29 overall prospect in the HoopGurlz espnW top 100 class of 2024.
Boyd, a 5-foot-9 guard from Centennial High School in Las Vegas, had made her commitment to Lady Vol head coach Kellie Harper public on April 17. The four-star recruit becomes the second player from Nevada to join the Big Orange, following in the footsteps of Las Vegas Liberty High School graduate and current WNBA player Rae Burrell.
"We are thrilled to welcome Kaniya Boyd to our Lady Vol family," Harper said. "She is a very talented guard who can handle the ball, run the offense, create opportunities for herself and can set others up as well. In addition to those physical attributes, I would describe Kaniya as a player who is tough, competitive, fearless and, simply put, a winner."
As a junior, Boyd averaged 12.2 points, 4.5 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game while helping a loaded Centennial squad to a 30-1 record and its eighth-straight NIAA 5A state title. She was named the Class 5A Defensive Player of the Year by the coaches and the 2022-23 MaxPreps Nevada High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
Boyd also is ranked No. 32 by ProspectsNation.com, holding a four-star rating and positioned third among combo guards by that service.
