Vols in the NFL - Week 9
November 07, 2023 | Football
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Week nine of NFL games was highlighted by impressive performances from former Volunteers Joshua Dobbs and Byron Young.
Just days after being traded to Minnesota, Dobbs rallied the Vikings to a road victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday afternoon.
The Georgia native made his purple and gold debut in the second quarter after starting quarterback Jaren Hall went down due to an injury. Despite not taking a single rep with the offense prior to the game, Dobbs completed 20 of 30 passes for 158 passing yards and two touchdowns. He added another score on the ground with a 18-yard run.
With the Vikings trailing 28-24 late in the fourth quarter, Dobbs led the Vikings down the field for the game-winning score, connecting with Brandon Powell on a 6-yard touchdown pass with 22 seconds remaining to give Minnesota a 31-28 win. Dobbs also picked up a crucial fourth down with his legs earlier in the drive, avoiding a sack before scrambling for 22 yards to convert a fourth-and-7.
