Vescovi Selected to Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Preseason Watch List

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Santiago Vescovi of the University of Tennessee men's basketball team is one of just 50 players nationwide on the Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Preseason Watch List, as announced Monday afternoon.
The fifth-year guard, who made the cut for the second straight year, is among seven SEC players on the list, alongside Arkansas' Trevon Brazile, Auburn's Johni Broome, Kentucky's Justin Edwards, Alabama's Grant Nelson, Mississippi State's Tolu Smith and Texas A&M's Wade Taylor IV.
A 6-foot-3, 196-pounder from Montevideo, Uruguay, Vescovi is a two-time reigning First Team All-SEC designee. He enters the 2023-24 campaign as a Blue Ribbon College Yearbook Preseason Fourth Team All-American.
In addition, Vescovi has earned Preseason First Team All-SEC status from both the league's coaches and media panel in advance of his final collegiate season. He is also among 20 players on the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Preseason Watch List.
The No. 27 all-time scorer at Tennessee with 1,318 points, is coming off a 2022-23 season in which he averaged 12.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.8 steals per game. He also shot 37.0 percent from 3-point range, helping the Volunteers to a 25-11 (11-7 SEC) record and an appearance in the Sweet 16.
Vescovi and No. 9/10 Tennessee open the 2023-24 regular season Monday at 6:30 p.m. against Tennessee Tech, live on SEC Network+ from the Food City Center.
