Dee Williams Tabbed To SEC Community Service Team
November 29, 2023 | Football
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Southeastern Conference announced Wednesday that Tennessee senior return specialist/wide receiver Dee Williams was named to the 2023 SEC Football Community Service Team.
The SEC names a Community Service Team for each of its 21-league sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.
Prior to kicking off his senior season on Rocky Top, Williams spent the summer volunteering at Emerald Academy, a K-8 college preparatory school, three to four times a week. He mentored local youth and engaged in activities with Academy members during their Summer Institute programming.
Williams also spent time at the Knoxville Children's Theatre as part of Tennessee's Day of Service and routinely visited with kids and families at the East Tennessee Children's Hospital. The Forsyth, Georgia, native has also helped raise awareness for Second Harvest Food Bank through his personal social media platforms with the ultimate goal of providing food security to members of the East Tennessee community.
"It means a lot to give back to the community," Williams said. "I always want to mentor kids and show them a way to be positive when things are tough. A message I would say for them is, 'Be patient for the process that God has in store for you.' One day over the summer, I decided to visit Emerald Academy and give those kids someone to look up to and have fun with. I encourage them to be the best version of themselves in any phase of life."
An All-America and All-SEC candidate as a return specialist, Williams ranks second in the SEC and fifth in the nation in punt return average at 14.7 and has one punt return touchdown to his credit against Texas A&M. He is the Tennessee career record holder in punt return average at 16.5 yards per return, and has also averaged 21.4 yards per kick return this season.
