Fingall Named SEC Offensive Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tennessee's Morgahn Fingall earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors after enjoying a pair of strong performances to cap off the regular season, the league office announced Monday.

This marked the fourth time this season Fingall brought home offensive player of the week recognition. As a team, UT's had six different players win a combined 23 SEC weekly honors this season.

A graduate student right side from Fairfax, Va., Fingall was spectacular offensively this week for the Lady Vols, finishing with 6.50 points and 6.00 kills per set—both of which led the SEC for the week—to go along with .532 hitting. Her hitting percentage ranked third in the SEC even though she took more than double the total attacks of anyone else in the top five.

Fingall opened the week with 20 kills on an impressive .594 hitting, 10 digs, two blocks and an ace against Mississippi State. It was her fifth 20-kill effort and fifth double-double of the season. For the night, she averaged 6.7 kills per set. She followed that up Saturday by notching 16 kills on .467, four digs and two blocks at South Carolina.

On Sunday, Fingall received SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors and All-SEC recognition for the second year in a row each. She averaged 4.92 points, 4.24 kills, 1.83 digs, 0.74 blocks and 0.31 aces per set while hitting .322 this year. Those numbers improved to 5.23 points, 4.56 kills, 2.17 digs and 0.88 blocks per set when facing AVCA Top 50 teams. She owned an SEC-leading 4.38 kills per set during conference play.

Fingall ranks second in the SEC in kills per set, third in points per set and 10th in hitting percentage. She sits inside the top 35 nationally in both kills and points per set. On the season, she's been a do-it-all player for the Big Orange, recording double-digit kills in 24 matches this season, including five 20-kill performances, posting five double-doubles on the year, notching multiple aces in eight contests and finishing three matches with at least five blocks.

After enjoying one of the best regular seasons in program history, the Lady Vols earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament and were selected as the No. 10 national seed.

Competing as the No. 3 seed in the Stanford quarter of the bracket, Tennessee opens with 23-7 High Point, the champions of the Big South, for a 6:30 p.m. ET first serve on Friday at Food City Center. The Lady Vols will also play host to No. 6 seed Western Kentucky and Coastal Carolina, who also face off Friday at 4:30 p.m. Fans can purchase all-session passes now at AllVols.com for $10.
