Vols Rise to No. 7/8 in National Polls
November 13, 2023 | Men's Basketball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee men's basketball team ascended two spots in both major polls this week.
Tennessee (2-0) now checks in at seventh nationally in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll and eighth in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. This is the 40th consecutive week Tennessee is ranked including its 15th appearance in the top 10 of the AP Poll during that stretch.
The Volunteers are coming off a pair of double-digit wins to open the 2023-24 season. They logged an 80-42 home victory last Monday over Tennessee Tech and then knocked off Wisconsin, 80-70, Friday night on the road in Madison, Wis.
Tennessee went from 1,032 points in the opening AP Poll to 1,146 this week, a 114-point jump. In the Coaches Poll, it went from 496 to 560, a 64-point improvement.
The Volunteers are the highest-ranked of five SEC teams in the polls, as they are joined by No. 13/15 Texas A&M, No. 14 Arkansas, No. 17/16 Kentucky and No. 22 Alabama. In addition, Auburn and Mississippi State are receiving votes from both polling groups.
Ninth-year head coach Rick Barnes and the Volunteers are back in action Tuesday, facing Wofford at 6:30 p.m. at Food City Center, live on SEC Network+.
