BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Southeastern Conference announced Monday that a pair of Tennessee football players were recognized with weekly honors after Saturday's gritty, 33-27 triumph on the road at Kentucky. Senior placekicker Charles Campbell was tabbed the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week, while senior offensive tackle John Campbell Jr. was selected as SEC Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week.
Charles Campbell drilled all four of his field goals and all three of his extra points that proved to be pivotal in Lexington. He tied a career-high with his four field goals made, converting from 44 yards, 49 yards and 34 yards in the first half and adding a 35-yarder in the third quarter. He accounted for 15 points on the evening.
The 49-yarder was a season long for the graduate transfer, and the 34-yarder came in the final seconds of the second quarter that gave the Vols a 23-17 halftime lead. The four made field goals were the most by a Vol since Chase McGrath had four last year at LSU to earn SEC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Campbell has made his last eight field goal attempts and is a perfect 15-of-15 from 49 yards or less this season and 29-of-29 on PATs. His 15 made field goals are second-most in the SEC this season, while his 11 in conference play are tied for the most.
John Campbell Jr., making the start at left tackle and playing through a second-half injury, set the tone for the Tennessee offensive line that rolled up 481 yards of total offense in the SEC road victory. Campbell played 55 snaps and did not allow a sack or a pressure.
He paved the way for a Vol rushing attack that churned out 253 yards against the SEC's second-best rushing defense, which came in allowing only 95.7 yards per game. The 253 rushing yards were the most allowed by the Wildcats this season. For the entire season, Campbell has played 511 snaps and allowed only one sack.
Both players are first-time recipients of weekly awards from the conference office. During the Josh Heupel era (2021-present), Tennessee has compiled 29 SEC weekly honors — including five Special Teams Player of the Week and seven Offensive Lineman of the Week accolades.
Tennessee returns home to Neyland Stadium this weekend, playing host to UConn for homecoming on Saturday. Kickoff is set for noon ET on SEC Network.
