Msgana Araya leads Lady Vols at Crimson Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – In the first competition of the weekend for Tennessee cross country, Msgana Araya led the Lady Vols across the line Friday morning at the Crimson Classic held at the Harry Pritchett Running Course.
Just four men raced for the Vols, with Brendan Gomez leading the charge.
MEN'S RACE RECAP – 8K
With the squad split this weekend just four men raced on Friday at the Crimson Classic. Gomez was the top finisher for the Vols, crossing the finish line 37th overall at 24:45.9. Redshirt freshman Yordanos Zelinski was the next Vol across the line in 24:56.1. He placed 47th out of 211 runners.
Brody Chapman (25:21.4) and Connor Henson (25:56.7) brought the group home with placements of 78th and 117th overall.
WOMEN'S RACE RECAP – 6K
The women's 6K wrapped up the 2023 Crimson Classic on Friday, with Araya leading the Lady Vols to a ninth-place team finish. She crossed the finish line 17th overall at 20:38.4.
Freshmen Summer Schuster and Lia Pugsley finished together at 21:04.5 to place 40th and 41st, while fellow freshman Julia Ray placed 57th in a time of 21:17.5. True freshman Lauren Rutlin rounded out the Lady Vols' top five in 71st at 21:33.9.
UP NEXT
Tennessee cross country will race on Saturday, Oct. 14 at the XC23 Pre-Nationals race at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Virginia. The race will give the Vols and Lady Vols a preview for the NCAA National Championships which will be held at the same course in just five weeks.
Nine Vols and Nine Lady Vols will represent the Orange & White on Saturday.
