October 12, 2023 | Men's Golf
ALPHARETTA, Ga. – The fifth-ranked Tennessee men's golf team is back in action for its fourth tournament of the fall this weekend, traveling south on I-75 for the 17th Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate, hosted by Georgia Tech. Â
The Vols are set to play three total rounds—teeing off with 18 holes on Friday, followed by 18 holes apiece on Saturday and Sunday.
The event is set to take place at the par-72, 7,092-yard Golf Club of Georgia—Lakeside Course, which is ranked 24th in the state of Georgia by Golf Digest. The most picturesque portion of the course are holes 11 through 14 as they play alongside majestic Lake Windward, offering views rarely seen at private golf clubs in North Atlanta.
According to Golfweek's Collegiate rankings, six of the 14 participating teams are ranked inside the top 25, with Tennessee being ranked the highest at No. 5. The 14-team field also includes six teams that played in the 2023 NCAA Championship. Three of which—Georgia Tech, Pepperdine and Virginia—advanced to match play.
The Vols are coming off their second team win in their third tournament of the season after winning the Fighting Irish Classic in dominant fashion thanks to a round three surge. Sophomore Caleb Surratt led the way for UT individually at the Fighting Irish Classic after posting a 7-under total score and finishing runner-up. Redshirt senior Bryce Lewis finished right behind Surratt, placing third and shooting 5-under.
This marks the fourth time under head coach Brennan Webb that Tennessee will compete at the Golf Club Georgia Collegiate. Last season, the Vols registered a fourth-place finish after shooting 14-under while Surratt placed tied for fifth individually.
