Lady Vols’ Horston Named To Wooden Award Midseason Top 25

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Los Angeles Athletic Club announced the John R. Wooden Award® presented by Wendy's® Midseason Top 25 Watch List Wednesday evening on ESPN2, and Tennessee women's basketball standout Jordan Horston is among the players included.
Chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts based on their performances during the 2022-23 season thus far, the list is comprised of 25 student-athletes who are front-runners for the sport's most prestigious honor. The players on the list are considered strong candidates for the 2023 John R. Wooden Award Women's Player of the Year presented by Wendy's.
Players not chosen to the preseason or midseason list are still eligible for the Wooden Award™ National Ballot. The National Ballot consists of 15 top players who have proven to their universities that they meet or exceed the qualifications of the Wooden Award. Voters will rank in order 10 of those 15 players when voting opens prior to the NCAA Tournament and will allow voters to take into consideration performance during early round games.
The Wooden Award All American Team™ will be announced the week of the "Elite Eight" round of the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the 2023 John R. Wooden Award will be presented by Wendy's following the NCAA Tournament in April.
Horston, a 6-foot-2 senior guard from Columbus, Ohio, is averaging 15.3 ppg., 6.2 rpg., 3.3 apg. and 1.6 spg., ranking second on the team in scoring, first in rebounds, second in assists and first in steals. She is shooting 46 percent from the field, 38 percent on three-pointers and 71.7 percent at the free-throw line. The three-year letterwinner leads the Lady Vols with three double-doubles and is second in 20-point scoring efforts with three of those as well.
On SEC statistical lists, the preseason all-league first-team pick by the coaches, media and USA TODAY Sports Network ranks No. 12 in scoring, No. 17 in rebounding, No. 7 in field goal percentage, 12th in assists and 10th in assist/turnover ratio.
Earlier this season, Horston became the 48th player to score 1,000 points as a Lady Vol. She currently ranks No. 37 with 1,129 during her four years on Rocky Top. Along with that point total, Horston has 577 rebounds and 387 assists in her career, leaving her 13 assists away from becoming only the fourth UT woman to amass 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 400 assists. The others in that elite club are Kara Lawson, Dena Head and Alexis Hornbuckle.
In addition to her presence on the Wooden Watch List, Horston is on the Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy and Ann Meyers Drysdale Award preseason watch lists, repeating her recognition of a year ago.

Wooden Award Program hosts the most prestigious honors in college basketball recognizing The Wooden Award Most Outstanding Player for men and women, The Wooden Award All America Teams for men and women and the annual selection of the Wooden Award Legend of Coaching recipient. Honorees have proven to their university that they meet or exceed the qualifications of the John R. Wooden Award as set forth by Coach Wooden and the Wooden Award Steering Committee, including making progress towards graduation and maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA. Additionally, the John R. Wooden Award partners with the Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) each year to host the Wooden Award Special Olympics Southern California Basketball Tournament. The day-long tournament brings together Special Olympics athletes and Wooden Award All Americans and coaches in attendance. It is hosted at the Los Angeles Athletic Club during the John R. Wooden Award Weekend. The Legends of Coaching Award will be presented to Coach Dawn Staley, the 2023 recipient, along with the Wooden Award Men's and Women's Players of the Year on April 7, 2023.
