Four UT Athletes Crack 2023 NCAA Top 10 Friday At Bob Pollock Invite

CLEMSON, S.C. — Four members of the Tennessee track & field program established times that rank inside the top 10 nationally with their performances on Friday at the Bob Pollock Invitational inside the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex, highlighting a strong showing for the Big Orange to open the third weekend of the 2023 indoor campaign.
Redshirt junior Emmanuel Bynum had the NCAA's second-fastest indoor 400-meter dash this season, shattering his lifetime-best with a clocking of 46.05 to win the event at Clemson. The Memphis native moved into the all-time Tennessee top 10 with his showing, ranking third on the program list and logging the fastest quarter-mile by a Vol since Nathan Strother in 2018.
Continuing her phenomenal start as a Lady Vol, redshirt junior Jacious Sears reigned victorious in the women's 60-meter dash with a PR of 7.17 seconds in Friday's final. The mark ranks No. 5 in the nation this season and second in the SEC, while improving Sears' standing as the No. 3 performer in school history behind two 7.15 clockings from Joella Lloyd (2021) and Courtney Champion (2007).
A pair of Tennessee 60-meter hurdlers added to the program's national prominence, including school record holder Charisma Taylor who ran a season-best 8.10 in the women's final for the No. 6 time in the nation during the 2022-23 season. Redshirt junior Jesse Henderson also turned in a season-best time in prelims on the men's side, clocking in at 7.71 to rank ninth in the NCAA and move up five spots to No. 5 on UT's all-time performance list.
Additionally, freshman sprinter Javonya Valcourt continued to progress in the 400-meter dash with a third-consecutive week setting an indoor PR. She won Friday's competition with a time of 53.67, ranking top-16 in the country this season and fourth among NCAA freshman according to the TFRRS Division I Indoor Qualifying List.
Redshirt junior Chandler Hayden wrapped up Friday's action at Clemson in the women's weight throw and topped her personal-best as well, logging a throw of 21.39m (70-2.25) on her fifth round attempt to place fourth at the meet and improve on her mark as the No. 3 performer in Lady Vol history. Including marks from Friday's competition at the Bob Pollock Meet, she sits 14th in the collegiate ranks this season.
