Four Former Vols Vying For Super Bowl Berth
January 27, 2023 | Football
Four former Tennessee Volunteers in the NFL are gearing up for their respective conference championships and vying for Super Bowl berths on Sunday. Â
Starting the day is the NFC Championship at 3 p.m. ET on FOX, pitting the San Francisco 49ers against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field.
Former Vols will be on both sidelines as wide receiver Jauan Jennings is on San Francisco's active roster. Emmanuel Moseley is also a member of the 49ers club but is currently on the injured reserve. On the other sideline, Derek Barnett represents the Eagles, but he is also on injured reserve. After hauling in 35 catches for 416 yards during the regular season, Jennings has played well in the 49ers two postseason contests. He caught two passes for 41 yards in the victory over the Dallas Cowboys last weekend.
In the nightcap, the Kansas City Chiefs and VFL Trey Smith welcome the Cincinnati Bengals to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff on CBS. Smith has been a steady cog up front for the Chiefs all season and is looking to continue leading the way for the high-powered Kansas City offense as they battle the Bengals. Smith has played 1,107 snaps for the entire season.
The winners advance to Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona, on Feb. 12. A total of 39 VFLs have combined for 48 Super Bowl rings all-time.
