Washington And Simmonds Called Into Jamaican National Team Camp
September 01, 2022 | Soccer
It is the first call-up to the senior team for Simmonds who has previously been active with the U-17 and U-20 squads, and Washington's first call-up since her debut in 2018 when she scored four goals during the 2019 CONCACAF World Cup qualifying stage. Her performance helped the Reggae Girlz qualify for the country's first ever FIFA Women's World Cup, but a torn ACL in May 2019 would keep Washington sidelined during that tournament.
Simmonds scored her first international goal earlier this year at the CONCACAF U-20 Championship.
The pair join former Tennessee standout Bunny Shaw on the roster.
Jamaica has already qualified for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia/New Zealand and will play South Korea in a friendly in Hwaseong Stadium at 4 a.m. ET on Sept. 3.
