ABOUT TENNESSEE'S NON-CONFERENCE OPPONENTS

UConn (Home)

Ranked No. 2 in ESPN's Way-Too-Early Top 25.
Still returns five of its top nine scorers, including Azzi Fudd (12.1 ppg.) and Caroline Ducharme (9.8 ppg.), despite Paige Bueckers being out for the year due to injury.
Finished 30-6 overall and 16-1 in the BIG EAST (1st) last season.
UConn fell to South Carolina in the 2022 NCAA Final Four championship game, 64-49.
The Huskies lead the all-time series, 16-9, after defeating UT by a 75-56 count in Hartford on Feb. 6 last season.
This will mark the fourth straight season these programs have met since the series was restarted in 2020 after a 12-year hiatus.

Stanford (Away)

Ranked No. 3 in ESPN's Way-Too-Early Top 25.
Returns four of its top five leading scorers, including WBCA All-Americans Cameron Brink (13.5 ppg., 8.1 rpg.) and Haley Jones (13.2 ppg., 7.9 rpg., 3.7 apg.).
Finished 32-4 overall and 16-0 in the Pac-12 (1st) last season.
Fell in the 2022 NCAA Final Four Semifinals to UConn, 63-58, after winning the 2021 title.
Tennessee is 25-12 all-time vs. Stanford but has dropped the last three meetings.
The teams last met in Knoxville on Dec. 18, 2021, with the Cardinal taking a 74-63 decision.

Virginia Tech (Home)

Ranked No. 11 in ESPN's Way-Too-Early Top 25.
Returns four of its top five scorers, including 6-foot-6 WBCA All-America center Elizabeth Kitley (18.1 ppg., 9.8 rpg.), Georgia Amoore (11.2 ppg.) and Kayana Traylor (10.4 ppg.).
Finished 23-10 overall and 13-5 in the ACC (t3rd) last season.
The Hokies fell to Florida Gulf Coast in the 2022 NCAA First Round, 84-81.
UT leads the all-time series with VT, 8-2, after winning in Blacksburg on Dec. 5 last season, 64-58.
This will mark the fourth time these schools have met since 2015, including the second time during the Kellie Harper era.

Indiana (Home)

Finished 24-9 overall and 11-5 in the Big Ten (5th) last season.
Fell in the 2022 NCAA Bridgeport Regional Semifinals to UConn, 75-58.
Tennessee is 2-0 vs. the Hoosiers, with UT and IU last meeting on Dec. 17, 2020, in Bloomington with the Lady Vols prevailing, 66-58.

Ohio State (Away)

Ranked No. 15 in ESPN's Way-Too-Early Top 25.
Returns five starters, including Jacy Sheldon (19.7 ppg.) and Taylor Mikesell (18.6).
Finished 25-7 overall and 14-4 in the Big Ten (1st) last season.
Fell in the 2022 NCAA Spokane Regional Semifinal to Texas, 66-63.
Tennessee is 10-1 all-time vs. Ohio State, winning the past five meetings.
The teams last met on March 25, 2016, with the Lady Vols defeating the Buckeyes, 78-62, in the NCAA Sioux Falls Regional Semifinals.

UCF (Home)

Returns only Destiny Thomas (4.8 ppg., 7.9 rpg.) among its top seven players from 2021-22.
Finished 26-4 overall and 14-1 in the American Athletic Conference (1st) last season.
UCF narrowly fell to UConn in the 2022 NCAA Second Round, 52-47.
Former Baylor and LSU assistant Sytia Messer took over as head coach after Katie Abrahamson-Henderson accepted the same position at Georgia.
Former UT assistant Greg Brown is associate head coach for the Knights.
Tennessee is 1-0 all-time vs. UCF after winning its road opener on Nov. 12, 2021, 49-41, in Orlando.

UMass (Home)

Returns its top six leading scorers, including season-long starters Sam Breen (17.3 ppg., 10.1 rpg., 39 3FGs), Sydney Taylor (15.9 ppg., 4.0 rpg., 83 3FGs), Destiney Philoxy (10.8 ppg., 5.7 apg., 3.0 rpg., 33 3FGs) and Ber'Nyah Mayo (9.9 ppg., 4.9 rpg., 2.2 apg., 38 3FGs).
Finished a program-best 26-7 overall and 11-4 in the Atlantic 10 Conference (3rd) last year, winning the A-10 Tournament to grab the league's automatic postseason bid.
UMass defeated a strong South Dakota State squad last season and dropped a narrow decision to No. 13 Iowa State, 76-71, with both contests coming in the Gulf Coast Showcase.
The Minutewomen made their first NCAA appearance since 1998 last season, falling to No. 5 seed Notre Dame, 89-78, in the opening round.
This will mark the initial meeting between these schools in women's basketball.

Wofford (Home)

Five of the Terriers' top eight scorers return, including starters in guard Jackie Carman (12.4 ppg., 62 3FGs) and forward Lily Hatton (9.7 ppg., 5.8 rpg.).
Finished 17-14 overall and 11-3 in the Southern Conference (2nd) last season.
The 17 overall victories were the most at the Division I level for Wofford, and the SoCon record was the best-ever for the Terriers.
Fell in the 2022 WNIT First Round to Middle Tennessee, 86-56.
This will mark the initial meeting between these schools in women's basketball.

Eastern Kentucky (Home)

Returns second-leading scorer Alice Recanati (9.9 ppg.).
Finished 15-16 overall and 7-9 in the Atlantic Sun (3rd in West Division) last season.
In second year as a member of the ASUN.
UT assistant Samantha Williams was head coach at Eastern Kentucky from 2019-21.
Tennessee is 8-1 vs. EKU, winning the past five meetings with only two of those occurring since 1978.
The teams last met on Feb. 24, 1993, with the No. 1 Lady Vols cruising in Richmond, 95-58.

Wright State (Home)

Only three players return with experience from last season, with Channing Chappell (6.7 ppg., 3.1 rpg.) earning starts in all 23 games a year ago.
The Raiders welcome six freshmen and six transfers into the mix this year as second-year head coach Kari Hoffman reshapes the program.
Finished 4-23 overall and 3-18 in the Horizon League (10th) last season.
This will mark the initial meeting between these schools in women's basketball.
Wright State was an NCAA Tournament team in 2021, upsetting Arkansas in the opening round before falling to Missouri State in the second round in San Antonio with current UT senior Jasmine Franklin putting up an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double for that victorious MSU squad.

Texas fell in the 2022 NCAA Spokane Regional Final to Stanford, 59-50.
Tennessee is 26-16 all-time vs. the Longhorns, winning three of the past four meetings.
The Lady Vols captured a thrilling, 74-70, overtime win in Knoxville last season on Nov. 21.

Louisville

Ranked No. 7 in ESPN's Way-Too-Early Top 25
Returns starters Hailey Van Lith (14.4 ppg.) and Olivia Cochran (8.6 ppg.) and welcomes talented graduate transfers Morgan Jones from Florida State and Crislyn Carr from Syracuse.
Finished 29-5 overall and 16-2 in the ACC (2nd) last season.
Fell to eventual champion South Carolina in the 2022 NCAA Final Four semifinals, 72-59.
Tennessee is 2-3 all-time vs. Louisville after falling to the Cardinal last season on March 26, 76-64, in the 2022 NCAA Wichita Regional Semifinals.

South Dakota State

Ranked No. 23 in ESPN's Way-Too-Early Top 25.
Returns WNIT MVP Myah Selland (14.3 ppg., 5.3 rpg.) and added Utah transfer Dru Gylten (4.9 ppg., 5.2 apg., 3.0 rpg.), who led the Pac-12 in assists in 2021-22 with 147.
Finished 28-9 overall and 17-1 in The Summit League (t1st) last season.
The Jackrabbits defeated Ohio, Minnesota, Drake, Alabama and UCLA to win the 2022 WNIT championship on their home floor.
UT and SDSU have never met in women's basketball.

Gonzaga

Was receiving votes in the final USA TODAY/WBCA Coaches Poll in 2021-22.
Returns three of its top four scorers, including Kayleigh Truong (11.2 ppg., 3.8 apg.), Kaylynne Truong (10.4 ppg., 3.4 apg.) and Yvone Ejim (10.1 ppg., 5.6 rpg.).
Finished 27-7 overall and 15-2 in the West Coast Conference (2nd) last season.
The Zags fell to Louisville in the 2022 NCAA Second Round, 68-59.
UT leads the all-time series with GU, 4-0, with two of the four previous meetings coming at neutral sites.
The last time these teams met, Tennessee came from 17 down with just over six minutes remaining to send the game to overtime and win, 73-69, in the 2015 NCAA Sweet 16 at "neutral" Spokane Arena.

UCLA

Received votes in the final USA TODAY/WBCA Coaches Poll of 2021-22.
Returns All-Pac 12 guard Charisma Osborne (16.4 ppg., 5.1 rpg., 3.9 rpg.) as well as contributors Angela Dugalic (6.5 ppg., 4.5 rpg.) and Dominque Onu (5.4 ppg.. 3.5 rpg.) among others.
Finished 18-14 overall and 8-8 in the Pac-12 (t6th) last season.
Fell to South Dakota State in the 2022 WNIT championship game, 62-59.
Tennessee is 18-2 all-time vs. UCLA, winning 15 of its last 16 vs. the Bruins.
UT suffered an 89-77 setback to UCLA on March 23, 2019, in the NCAA First Round in College Park, Maryland.

Marquette

Returns starters Jordan King (11.5 ppg.), Liza Karlen (10.2 ppg., 7.2 rpg.) and Chloe Marotta (6.9 ppg., 7.3 rpg.).
Finished 23-11 overall and 13-7 in the BIG EAST (5th) last season.
Fell at home in the 2022 WNIT Third Round to Toledo, 92-82, on March 24.
Tennessee is 3-0 all-time vs. Marquette, playing two of those three meetings at neutral sites.
The Lady Vols and Golden Eagles last met on Nov. 23, 2017, with UT securing a 101-99 overtime win over MU at the Cancun Challenge.

Rutgers

Returns only three players off the 2021-22 roster, led by Awa Sidibe (4.1 ppg. and 2.6 rpg.).
Finished 11-20 overall and 3-14 in the Big Ten (13th) last season.
Did not qualify for postseason play a year ago.
Tennessee is 20-3 all-time vs. Rutgers, winning the last 10 meetings.
The Lady Vols and Scarlet Knights last met on Dec. 14, 2014, in Piscataway, with UT taking a 55-45 victory.
