Tennessee Basketball’s Academic Effort Honored by NABC
July 19, 2022 | Men's Basketball, Tennessee Tailored
The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) on Tuesday announced its team and individual academic honors for the 2021-22 academic year, and the Tennessee Volunteers were prominently featured.
In addition to three Vols earning placement on the NABC Honors Court—which recognizes junior, senior and graduate student men's basketball players who finished the 2021-22 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher—the entire Tennessee team earned an NABC Team Academic Excellence Award by virtue of the squad's 3.28 GPA.
Tennessee was one of only three SEC programs to earn a 2021-22 Team Academic Excellence Award.
Individually, departed senior Victor Bailey Jr. and sixth-year grad student John Fulkerson both landed on the NABC Honors Court for their academic diligence in UT's Agricultural Leadership, Education & Communication graduate program. Rising senior Santiago Vescovi's academic record in pursuit of his Business Management degree earned him Honors Court recognition as well.
"Academic success is a core value of the NABC and a priority shared by men's basketball programs across the country," NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson said. "Excellence in the classroom requires hard work and dedication, and the NABC considers it a privilege to honor these deserving student-athletes and the coaches and staff who support them."

Tuesday's NABC news comes on the heels of last week's SEC announcement of its 2021-22 First-Year Academic Honor Roll. That listing included six Vols who were freshmen last season: Jonas Aidoo (Journalism & Electronic Media), Quentin Diboundje (Business), Brandon Huntley‐Hatfield (Sport Management), Jahmai Mashack (Psychology), Handje Tamba (Exploratory) and Zakai Zeigler (Mathematics).
This was the third straight year that Tennessee placed five or more men's basketball players on the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, which includes those who post a GPA of 3.0 or better for the academic year.
