May 24, 2022 | Men's Tennis
Boris Kozlov has signed an institutional aid agreement with the Tennessee men's tennis team and will join the Vols for the 2022-23 season.
Â
Originally from Pembroke Pines, Florida, Kozlov will be a fifth-year senior during the 2022-23 season.
Â
Kozlov arrives in Knoxville after spending the previous four seasons at LSU. Prior to joining the Tigers, Kozlov was a five-star recruit and blue-chip prospect, ranked as the No. 31 player in the country by TennisRecruiting.net. He holds a Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of 12.76.
Â
"We have obviously seen Boris compete a lot over the last few years and have always admired his work ethic," associate head coach James McKie said. "He's a competitor. He's just what we look for in recruiting. I know he won't waste a day and will try to maximize himself for the next year. We fully believe he's going to thrive in the culture that has been established here."
Â
As a senior in 2021-22, Kozlov logged an 18-10 overall singles mark, which included a 16-8 dual match record. He was 3-2 at No. 4 singles, 5-2 at No. 5 and 8-4 at the No. 6 spot. He ended the season on a five-match win streak.
Â
In his junior year at LSU in 2020-21, Kozlov compiled a 13-12 overall record in singles, including a 10-7 mark in dual play and was 5-4 in SEC action. He played most matches at LSU's No. 4 singles spot, with a 5-5 record there. In doubles play, Kozlov and partner Nick Watson were second on LSU in wins with a 14-10 record.
Â
Kozlov's sophomore season (2019-20) saw him spend 18 of the 23 weeks in the ITA singles rankings, with a high ranking of 51. He logged a 12-7 record in singles play as a sophomore and was 8-2 in dual singles matches. Kozlov had won seven of his last nine singles matches upon the remainder of the season being canceled due the COVID-19 global pandemic.
Â
In his freshman campaign in Baton Rouge, Kozlov was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team after going 21-8 in singles that year (2018-19). He won nine of his first 10 matches in the spring and had two top-100 singles wins on the year.
