KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The awards continued to roll in for graduate student Tenika McGiffin who was named to the 2022 CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 First Team earlier this week.
McGiffin becomes the third Lady Vol in program history to attain the accolade, claiming the fifth Academic All-District honor all-time, as Crystal Cleveland was a Third Team recipient in 2003 and Blakeley Griffith earned three selections from 2005-07.
"This is an incredible honor for Tenika," head coach Alison Ojeda said on the award. "To be voted as one of our regions top student-athletes both in the classroom and on the competition surface is an outstanding achievement. I continue to be incredibly proud of Tenika and appreciative of the numerous ways she has represented the University of Tennessee and the Lady Vols."
The native of Australia holds a 4.00 GPA in her Sport Management master's program after earning her undergraduate degree just a year ago. It marks McGiffin's third postseason honor this season as she was named 2022 SEC women's tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was selected to the All-SEC First Team.
McGiffin finished her singles career with a 76-49 record and is 76-67 in doubles play, holding a 22-14 record this season. She will compete at the NCAA National Doubles Championship in Champaign, Illinois with partner Daria Kuczer early next week. The two are currently ranked No. 21 in the country.
McGiffin is joined on the list by swim and dive student-athlete Kara Holt.
Action begins for the three Lady Vols competing in the final tournament of the 2021-22 season, the NCAA individual championships, on Monday, May 23, at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex.
