Lady Vols Fall To Iowa State In Pool Play
May 13, 2022 | Women's Basketball
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Tennessee fell 21-13 Friday afternoon to Iowa State in Pool C play at the 2022 Red Bull USA Basketball 3X Nationals at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Â
Unofficially, Tamari Key led the Lady Vols with seven points, followed by Jordan Walker with five and Sara Puckett with one on the Hall of Fame's Jerry Colangelo Court of Dreams, located in the heart of the Museum.Â
Â
Key put UT on top 1-0 with a free throw and scored the next six UT points in a back-and-forth affair. Her final bucket was a layup on a nifty pass from Kaiya Wynn to pull UT within one of the Cyclones at 7-6.
Â
Walker scored all of her team's next five points, including two from long-range, to pull UT within five at 17-12. Puckett's rebound bucket kept the gap at five at 18-13, but that was Tennessee's last point during a 4-1 game-closing run by ISU.
Â
On Saturday, UT is slated to close pool play vs. Hoopers NY at 9:50 a.m. and vs. Athletes Unlimited at 5:30 p.m. Bracket play will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, with each team seeded based upon its record in pool play. The competition continues on Sunday morning and concludes mid-afternoon on Sunday.
Â
Played on a half court with a 10-minute clock and a 12-second shot clock, the first team to 21 points, or the team in the lead at the end of regulation, is the winner. Free throws and field goals count as one point, and shots made beyond the traditional three-point arc count as twos.
