Lady Vols Fall in Friday Battle with Vanderbilt

KNOXVILLE – Falling for the first time this season when winning the doubles point, Tennessee women's tennis dropped the weekend opener to Vanderbilt, 5-2.
Tennessee (11-7, 5-5 SEC) raced out of the gates, claiming the doubles point with victories on Court 2 and Court 3. The No. 3 pairing of Kylie Duckworth and Elza Tomase mounted a five-game comeback, winning 7-5 after trailing 2-5. Then on Court 2, Esther Adeshina and Rebeka Mertena clinched the match with another 7-5 victory. It marked the fourth-consecutive match where the Big Orange grabbed the doubles point.
Tenika McGiffin was the only Lady Volunteer to emerge victorious in singles play. She battled through a three-set dual with 78th-ranked Anessa Lee, winning 2-6, 6-0, 6-4. McGiffin tallied her sixth ranked singles victory of the season.
Tennessee was in the match till the bitter end, forcing three third-sets. Daria Kuczer also was in the entirety of a match, but fell in both tiebreakers.

ONE LAST TIME AT HOME
Tennessee is scheduled to play its last home match of the season Sunday at Barksdale Stadium at noon. The Lady Vols will honor Callie Creath, Kylie Duckworth and Tenika McGiffin prior to the start of the match.
