Lady Vols Win College Women’s DMR, Coffey Wins Men’s Discus at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA – Day two at the 126th Penn Relays started with the Lady Vols winning the College Women's Distance Medley Relay inside historic Franklin Field and ended with Skylar Coffey's come-from-behind victory in the men's discus throw.
The quartet of Brooke Dixon, Uchechi Nwogwugwu, Allison Rand and Olivia Janke took first in the race at 11:20.78 – finishing 12 seconds faster than second-place Navy.
Tennessee DMR squads have now won two collegiate races at the Penn Relays in the program's last two trips to Philadelphia. In the last running of the Penn Relays, it was the UT men winning the college division men's distance medley relay.
At the throws ring, Coffey won the College Men's Discus Throw in stellar fashion. The freshman set a personal best on his opening throw at 56.51m (185-4) but sat in fourth heading into his sixth and final throw.
With his last heave, Coffey surpassed his first mark as he threw a distance of 56.51m (185-4) and claimed the event win.
MEN'S DMR
Canaan Anderson, Ethan Robinson, Will Mazur and Tim Thacker ran in the College Men's Distance Medley Relay Championship of America Saturday, placing 11th overall in a time of 9:49.94.
WOMEN'S 4X400-METER RELAY
In the College Women's 4x400-meter Relay Championship of America, the Lady Vols finished 10th at 3:40.60. Nwogwugwu, Kyla Robinson-Hubbard, Rand and Mia O'Neil competed in the event for the Orange & White.
OPENING UP IN BATON ROUGE
While the Penn Relays squad heads into the final day Saturday, UT's sprinters and jumpers open up competition in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the LSU Invitational. The group of 26 will compete in the one-day meet on April 30, beginning at 1:35 p.m. ET with the men's 4x100-meter relay.
The meet at LSU wraps up at 5 p.m. ET with the men's 4x400m relay.
UP NEXT
Following Saturday's action at Penn Relays and the LSU Invitational, the Vols and Lady Vols return home for the Tennessee Challenge on May 7. The one-day meet begins at 11 a.m. from Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium.
