BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On Tuesday, the Southeastern Conference announced Tennessee's Hannah Jefcoat and Logan Steenstra have been nominated for the league's H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship.
The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the SEC since 1986 to the league's top male and female scholar-athletes.
Jefcoat is in her fifth year with the Tennessee track & field program and has grown into a leader on and off the track. The Dacula, Georgia, native is a team captain and the 2021-22 Co-President of UT's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
She graduated in May 2021 with a degree in kinesiology and was honored with the Volunteer of Distinction award from the University of Tennessee for her academic achievement and professional promise. Jefcoat is a four-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and has been named a USTFCCCA Track & Field All-Academic Athlete on four occasions.
On the track, she is a three-time SEC points scorer and is the indoor and outdoor school record holder for women's pole vault with clearances of 4.34m (14-2.75) indoors and 4.22m (13-10) outdoors.
Steenstra has been a consistent contributor for the Vols baseball team since arriving on campus prior to the 2021 season after spending two years at Cowley College in Kansas, where he was an all-conference selection in 2019 and helped lead the Tigers to the NJCAA Division I World Series. The Missouri native was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 2019 MLB Draft, but elected to enroll at Tennessee and play for the Vols.
During his two seasons on Rocky Top, Steenstra has batted .312 with 20 runs scored, 11 doubles, two homers and 16 RBIs in 53 games played. He has also excelled in the classroom, sporting a 3.67 GPA while majoring in Kinesiology, and was named to the Dean's List in the Fall of 2021. Steenstra earned a spot on the 2020-21 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll last season.
The SEC will name the 2022 recipients of the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship in early May.
