Vols Shoot 12-Under in Round Two at SEC Championships

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The 18th-ranked Tennessee men's golf team put on a dominant showing Thursday at the SEC Championships, rebounding from its slow start in round one by shooting 12-under in round two—the third-best team round in SEC Championships history.

After shooting 12-over during Wednesday's first round, the Vols' historic 12-under round on Thursday was the best round two score of any team in the field. Tennessee is in ninth place entering the final round of stroke play.

Following Friday's third round, the top eight teams in the field will move on to match play. After sitting seven strokes back from eighth place following round one, the Vols are now just one stroke back from eighth-place Mississippi State.

Tennessee was the only team in the field on Thursday to have each of the five members of the lineup shoot below par. The Vols made 21 total birdies as a team during round two as opposed to seven total in round one.
Though Spencer Cross leads the way overall for Tennessee through two rounds, it was Tyler Johnson who recorded a historic performance on Thursday and gave the Vols their best round of the day—carding a 6-under round that was tied for the third-best individual round in SEC championships history.

Through two rounds, Johnson now sits at even par overall and tied for 23rd place.

With two consecutive rounds under par, Cross is inside the top 10 entering the final round of stroke play, just three strokes back from the individual leader. Cross is 3-under overall after shooting 2-under on Thursday and tied for eighth place.

After a 2-under outing during round two, Bryce Lewis is just outside the top 25—tied for 29th place at 1-over overall. Lewis carded just one bogey on Thursday and made three birdies.

Jake Hall's round did not count for Tennessee on Thursday, despite the him shooting 1-under and carding his team-high 21st round of par or better. Hall is tied for 41st entering the final round of stroke play.

Hunter Wolcott shot 2-under on Thursday and gave Tennessee its final counting round. Wolcott is 5-over overall and in 53rd place entering round three.
