Men’s Golf Central: SEC Championships

The 18th-ranked Tennessee men's golf team begins postseason play Wednesday, competing at the SEC Championships in St. Simons Island, Georgia at Sea Island Golf Club.
The event, which runs from Wednesday through Sunday, features both stroke and match play. The top eight teams following Friday's third round of stroke play advance to match play, with the quarterfinals and semifinals on Saturday and the championship on Sunday.
This spring's championships mark the 19th year for the SEC Championship to be contested on the Sea Island Golf Club's Seaside Course. Tennessee has captured three SEC Championships in program history, most recently in 2007.
Entering this year's event, 10 of the SEC's 14 teams are ranked in the top 25 of the latest Golfstat team rankings.
During its last appearance at the SEC Championships, Tennessee finished second as a team in stroke play, with Spencer Cross shooting 1-under and finishing fourth overall. Current Vols Hunter Wolcott (T-12th) and Bryce Lewis (T-20th) also recorded top-20 finishes.
The second-place finish marked Tennessee's highest finish in stroke play finish at the SEC Championships since 2007.
Tennessee is coming off a second-place team finish in its regular season finale at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial in a tournament that saw Cross capture his first career individual title.
Cross shot 12-under to capture the win, while Lewis shot 1-under and tied for 21st place. It marked Lewis' fifth top-25 finish during this spring alone.
THE VOLS' LINEUP
Spencer Cross
Cross concluded the regular season fourth in the SEC and first on the team with a stroke average of 69.67. Coming off his first career individual title last week at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial, Cross has been Tennessee's highest finisher in four straight tournaments and boasts a fourth-place finish in his only career appearance at the SEC Championships.
Bryce Lewis
Lewis finished the regular season second on the team with a 70.67 stroke average—a mark that ranked No. 13 in the SEC. Lewis has finished in the top-25 during all but one of the Vols' six spring tournaments—finishing as the team's highest or second-highest finisher in each of those tournaments. Lewis has 17 rounds of par or better and three top-10 finishes this season.
Tyler Johnson
Johnson has been Tennessee's third-highest finisher in each of the six spring tournaments and narrowly missed out on his third straight top-25 finish last week at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial with a 27th-place finish. Johnson boasts a season-long stroke average of 70.96 and has recorded counting rounds in 19.5 of the 24 rounds he was in the lineup for.
Jake Hall
A mainstay in Tennessee's lineup this season, Hall has carded a team-high 20 rounds par or better this season and has posted a 71.33 stoke average this spring. The Knoxville native has contributed 15 counting rounds this season.
Hunter Wolcott
Having finished in fourth (2019) and 12th (2021) during his two career appearances at the SEC Championships, Wolcott is set to make his third career appearance at Sea Island Golf Club. This season, Wolcott has shot 72 or better in six of his last seven rounds for the Vols.

With the exception of 2020's cancellation, the SEC has conducted its annual championship on St. Simons Island every year since 2001. The Seaside Course is also home to the PGA Tour's RSM Classic.
