Lady Vols Advance to Match Play for First Time in Program History

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tennessee women's golf advanced to the match play quarterfinals of the SEC Championship on Friday afternoon for the first time in program history.
Senior Mikayla Bardwell, coming off a record-breaking second day, shot 1-under on the front nine before finishing the final round at +1. She concluded stroke play in third (-5), which was her best finish of the year.
Kayla Holden made five birdies to end the day at even par, marking her fourth par or better round of the year. Vanessa Gilly shot par or better for 13 consecutive holes to wrap up the third round at 2-over. The sophomores finished tied for 36th ahead of match play.
Bailey Davis, a freshman, birdied her final two holes to seal the Lady Vols' eighth place finish. She shot a 73 and tied for 45th.
Junior Nicole Whiston carded a 77 and tied for 62nd place.
Due to potential inclement weather on Saturday, the quarterfinals of match play occurred Friday afternoon. The Lady Vols competed against Auburn, who finished first in stroke play.
Holden won three holes but is currently down one with seven holes to go after play was suspended due to a lack of light.
Gilly birdied her first hole and won two holes. She is tied with her opponent and has eight holes left to finish.
Davis won on hole 3 and is down two holes ahead of tomorrow.
Bardwell won on hole 7 and is currently down three with nine holes to go.
Walts fell to her opponent through the 11 holes that were played.
