PREVIEW: NCAA Zone B Diving Championships
March 04, 2022 | Swimming & Diving
ATLANTA – Nine divers will represent Tennessee at the NCAA Zone B Championships this weekend at McAuley Aquatic Center, as the divers from around the region will compete to qualify for the NCAA Championships later this month.
Â
The zone championships begin Sunday, March 6, and run through Wednesday, March 9. See below for the daily schedule.
Â
Grace Cable, Maddie Reese and Elle Renner qualified for all three events, while Kara Holt (platform) and Emily Ann Wolfson (1-meter) will compete in one event. On the men's side, Bryden Hattie, Jacob Reasor and Dillon Richardson qualified in every event, and Matthew Wade will compete on both springboards. Â
Â
In total, 99 divers will compete throughout the week. Ten spots at NCAAs are up for grabs for the women on 1-meter and 3-meter, while nine spots are available on platform. The men have eight open slots at NCAAs on 1-meter, 11 available spots on 3-meter and seven on platform. If a diver qualifies in one event, they can compete at NCAAs if they finish in the top 12 in other eligible events.
Â
The number of open positions for each zone is dependent on how well divers from a particular zone perform at NCAAs the season prior, so results from the 2021 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships were used to determine the number of positions open for Zone B on each board this season.
Â
Hattie, Holt and Wade all advanced from zones to the NCAA Championships last season.
