March 30, 2022 | Rowing
IRVING, Texas – For the second week in a row, the Tennessee varsity eight boat was recognized for its performance, garnering Big 12 Co-Boat of the Week honors, the league office announced Wednesday.
Â
The Lady Vol 1V8 continued its early success during week two of the spring season, finishing 2-0 and earning a top-10 victory during the Virginia Invitational. In the first session of the day, the Lady Vol varsity eight defeated sixth-ranked Virginia's top boat with a time of 7:01.8.
Â
During the second race of the day, the Tennessee 1V8 crossed the finish line in 7:09.1 to beat North Carolina's best varsity eight by 26 seconds. Through two regattas this spring, Tennessee's varsity eight boasts three wins and two second-place finishes.
Â
This marks the fourth time Tennessee has received Big 12 Boat of the Week honors since joining the conference in 2015. This is the first occasion in which the Lady Vols have received the award in back-to-back weeks as well as in the same season.
Â
Tennessee, ranked 17th in the most recent Pocock CRCA Coaches Poll, will take on conference rival Alabama in a dual this weekend. Races are set to begin at 9 a.m. ET on the Black Warrior River in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
