Lady Vol 1V8 Earns Big 12 Boat of the Week Honors
March 23, 2022 | Rowing
IRVING, Texas – After picking up a win and a pair of second-place finishes during the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invite, Tennessee's 1V8 boat earned Big 12 Boat of the Week honors, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Â
The Lady Vols opened the regatta with a win against Navy, Notre Dame and Tulsa – all of which received votes in last week's Pocock Coaches Pool. UT crossed the finish line in 6:33.221 to place first.
Â
In its second race, the boat took second behind No. 11 Yale but saw an impressive 19-second drop from its morning time with a 6:14.579 mark, besting Tulsa and Clemson in the event. Tennessee's time in the race made it the third-fastest 1V8 boat during the regatta. The group concluded the weekend with another second-place finish in a race against No. 14 Duke and Navy.
Â
This marks the third time Tennessee has received Big 12 Boat of the Week honors since joining the conference in 2015. The last time was on April 19, 2018.
