Lady Vols Open Cardinal Invite With Two Wins

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – No. 20 Tennessee rowing finished with a pair of wins and saw big time improvements during the first day of the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invite.
The Lady Vols kicked things off by competing against Navy, Notre Dame and Tulsa. UT finished with the fastest time in the 1V8, as Madelyn Walsh coxed the lineup of Emma Seawright, Natalia Loram, Kathleen Rice, Jaimie Armitage, Reagan Long, Lindsey Morrissett, Sydney Pardy and Erin Gifford recorded a 6:33.221 mark.
The 2V8 boat placed second behind Navy (6:42.475) with a 6:45.263 time. In the novice races, Tennessee's 3V8 posted a time of 7:25.415, while the 4V8 finished in 7:24.386 against Navy, Indiana and Wisconsin.
UT took third in both V4 events, as the 1V4 notched a 7:44.483 mark followed by the 2V4's time of 7:53.775.
During the second session of the day, Tennessee took on No. 11 Yale, Clemson and Tulsa. The Lady Vols took second in the 1V8 (6:14.579) and 2V8 (6:27.170) races. The two races featured major time jumps from the morning, as the 1V8 saw a 19-second improvement and the 2V8 finished 15 seconds faster.
Tennessee won its second race of the day when the 3V8 boat bested Clemson in a head-to-head event. The Lady Vols threw down a time of 6:44.862 in the race. The Big Orange rounded out the day with a third-place finish in the 4V8 race, crossing the finish line in 7:02.895.
On Sunday, UT will face off against No. 14 Duke and Navy. After the 4V8s open the day with a 9:54 a.m. race, the 1V8s will kick off the final slate of contests at 10:34, and the final race of the regatta will begin at 11:06 with the 3V8s.
