Hendon Hooker Kicks Off Season Three of "The Slice" Podcast
February 28, 2022 | Football
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Record-setting Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker returns for his final collegiate season this fall and kicks off the third season of "The Slice," Tennessee football's official podcast.
"The Slice" is available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify (search The Slice). VFL Films' Kasey Funderburg conducts the in-depth interview, while Travis Dean produces the episode.
Hooker enters his sixth and final season as one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in all of college football. The son of a Hall of Fame signal caller at North Carolina A&T, Hooker discusses growing up in Greensboro, North Carolina, and playing football at the age of four at the local YMCA.
"Either we are cleaning the house or doing something to better our craft," he said. "Me and my brother were always playing basketball or football. Once they saw that we were attracted to our crafts, they (my parents) always pushed is to be better and better."
Hooker earned his undergraduate degree in public relations from Virginia Tech in 2020 before transferring to Tennessee. He made an immediate impact in his first season, taking control of the starting role in Week 3 and never looking back.
Hooker set single-season school records in completion percentage (68.0) and passer efficiency rating (181.4), while finishing fourth in school history in total offense (3,565). In the process, he became Tennessee's first Davey O'Brien Award semifinalist since 2006. He carries a streak of 12 consecutive games with a touchdown pass into 2022, which is the third-longest streak in school history.
Off the field, Hooker co-authored a children's scripture book called "The ABCs of Scripture for Athletes" with his brother, Alston, who plays at North Carolina A&T.
Hooker and the Volunteers begin spring practice on March 22.
