Canaan Anderson Breaks Freshman Record in Men’s Mile

BLACKSBURG, Va. – On the opening night of the Virginia Tech Challenge, Canaan Anderson took down the freshman record in the men's mile as he crossed the line in 4:05.88 at Virginia Tech's Rector Field House.
Anderson's time won the event and toppled the previous rookie mark of 4:07.04 set by Dusty Miller in 2004. Anderson is the fourth Tennessee distance athlete to break a freshman record this season, joining Brooke Dixon (mile), Kayla Gholar (3,000) and Rachel Sutliff (5,000) from the women's team.
All four freshman records have fallen within the last three weeks.
Under director of track & field/cross country Beth Alford-Sullivan, the Vols and Lady Vols have broken five of the six freshman distance records in the last two seasons.
HOOSIER MOVES UP
Prom'Myse Hoosier leaped 6.32m (20-9) Friday night at the Virginia Tech Challenge, moving up to fifth all-time in Lady Vol history in the event. Hoosier finished second overall, but was the top collegiate finisher.
DOUBLE PBs IN 800
In the women's 800-meter, Carolyn Barksdale and Jensen Overbay each set personal-best times. Barksdale placed sixth in the event at 2:12.75, while Overbay followed in eighth with a time of 2:19.05.
JANKE WINS 1,000-METER
Olivia Janke ran in the women's 1,000-meter at the Virginia Tech challenge. She brought home the event title in a personal-best 2:52.67.

Tennessee concludes the Virginia Tech Challenge Saturday, beginning at 11:30 a.m. ET. The Vols and Lady Vols will then turn their attention to the 2022 SEC Indoor Championships hosted by Texas A&M.
