Vols Tied for Fourth Through One Round at Puerto Rico Classic

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The eighth-ranked Tennessee men's golf team began its spring season Sunday, competing in the opening round of the Puerto Rico Classic.

The Vols shot 12-under for the day Sunday and sit in a tie for fourth place entering the tournament's second round.
Â
Senior Spencer Cross and redshirt sophomore Jake Hall led the way for Tennessee on Sunday, each shooting 4-under. The duo is tied for 10th place entering Monday.
Â
Cross shot no worse than par on any hole Sunday, also carding four birdies. Hall also carded four birdies, as well as an eagle. Hall added onto his team-high total of 10 rounds of par or better this season, while Cross now has six such rounds.

Redshirt sophomore Bryce Lewis gave Tennessee a third golfer in the top 25, as he shot 3-under and is tied for 22nd.

Competing in his first career tournament as a member of Tennessee's lineup, freshman Laurent Desmarchais shot 1-under on Sunday and is tied for 48th place.

Owner of Tennessee's lowest stroke average in the fall, Tyler Johnson shot 2-over and is tied for 72nd place.

Competing as an individual, redshirt freshman Cade Russell shot 4-under during round one and is tied with Cross and Hall entering round two. Russell shot five birdies during round one.

The Vols are set to tee off round two of the Puerto Rico Classic Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. ET.
