Vols in the NFL - Week 14 Update
December 14, 2022 | Football
With another weekend down and the season inching towards the finish line, a number of former Tennessee Volunteers in the NFL helped their teams continue the playoff push.
The Los Angeles Chargers currently find themselves locked into a four-way tie for sixth in the AFC at 7-6. Joshua Palmer nabbed four catches for 53 yards in a 23-17 home victory over the Miami Dolphins. Palmer, playing in his second year in the NFL, picked up his 1,000th career professional receiving yard.
Palmer has been one of the most consistent contributors on the team for the Chargers. He leads the squad in receiving yards and average yards per game, among players who have participated in 10 or more games. He has also been highly effective when the Chargers need to move the sticks, leading the team in first downs by receiving with 35.
Elsewhere, Cameron Sutton has been locked in of late for the Pittsburgh Steelers, recording a pass breakup in his third consecutive game. He had upped his season total on the year to 11 PBUs, already setting a new single-season career record in his six years of pro ball.
Cade Mays has carved out a role for himself as a blocker out of the backfield. The rookie made his second-consecutive start for Carolina and saw five offensive snaps in the Panthers' 30-24 victory at Seattle.
