Fingall Reaches Milestone as Lady Vols Cruise Past LSU

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – It was a Saturday sweep for the Lady Vols as they blew past LSU in three sets (25-14, 25-22, 25-17) at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Tennessee (12-11, 6-5 SEC) put up 48 total kills and hit .415 on the day as Morgahn Fingall led the way with 16 kills and Erykah Lovett contributed 14 more (.400). Fingall surpassed the 1,000-kill milestone early in the second set, becoming the 23rd player in program history to reach the feat and the 10th to do so in the rally-scoring era.

Fingall's 16 kills came in a .516 hitting performance, marking her 19th double-digit kill outing of the season.Natalie Hayward facilitated the offense with 34 assists while and 12 digs on the afternoon.

LSU (13-10, 7-6 SEC) hit .208 as a team with 36 kills. The Tigers were led by Paige Flickinger who tallied 13 kills.

Tennessee started off hot in the opening frame as it totaled 14 kills and hit .387 to take the first set, 25-14. The set was marked with an early 11-0 run, with the Lady Vols jumping to a 12-3 lead.

LSU responded in the second set, as the two teams traded points throughout the frame before the Lady Vols were able to pull away late for a 25-22 win. Tennessee had a team hitting percentage of .364 in the set, with Mahaffey recording six of their 16 kills and Lovette added four more, including the final blow.

UT convincingly put the match away in the third set, never trailing in the final frame en route to the sweep with a 25-17 third-set decision. Fingall logged her best set of the day, with 10 kills in the final frame alone.

Tennessee is back home in Thompson-Boling Arena Sunday for the second day of the two-match series against LSU. The match is set for a noon first serve.
