PREVIEW: Swim & Dive Hosts Tennessee Invitational
November 16, 2022 | Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving, Men's Swimming & Diving
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Looking to compete against some of the nation's best teams, Tennessee swimming & diving will host the annual Tennessee Invitational this Thursday through Saturday at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
Â
Nine teams will go head-to-head at the Tennessee Invite: Tennessee, Carson-Newman (swimming only), Duke (diving only), Florida Gulf Coast (women's diving only), Georgia Southern (women's diving only), Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina (diving only) and Virginia. The seventh-ranked Lady Vols' side of the meet will feature three nationally ranked teams with No.1 ranked Virginia, No. 14 Michigan and No. 17 North Carolina, while the No.13 Vols will face off against No. 9 Virginia, No. 16 Michigan and No. 23 North Carolina.
Â
Admission is free for all regular season meets, and the clear-bag policy will be in place for all fans. Parking will be available in Lot SC40 off Kingston Pike near Tyson Park (PDF). Spectators may also meter park on Volunteer Blvd at available meters.
Â
Fans can follow along by streaming the meet on SEC Network+ or with live results by using the Meet Mobile app (NOTE: Prelims and Finals will show up as separate meets on the app). Watch Live Links can be found below with the day-by-day schedule.
Â
The invite will be scored like dual meets (team-vs-team basis) as opposed to an overall winner for the five teams swimming (Carson-Newman, Michigan, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia). All events will be conducted as prelims/finals events, with these exceptions swum as timed finals: all relays, and 1650 Freestyle. All heats of the 1650 will swim in the morning except the top eight swimmers. Finals will swim B/A format. There will potentially be C finals with postgrads, but these will just be exhibitions and will not count towards any scoring.Â
Because this is operating like multiple dual meets, each can advance a max of three swimmers to the A final. Only the top five from each pair of teams would score and a B finalist could not score above an A finalist. Swimmers are limited to four scoring events. They can swim as many as they want but would need designated exhibition swims. Exhibition swims can still swim at night but will be relegated to the B final or below.
Â
Swimmers can compete on all five relays. There's a limit to four relays per event as well, with the top two scoring points per team (A & B relays will compete in the A final, while the C & D relays will swim in the B final). Dual Meet scoring will be used at this meet (Individuals: 9-4-3-2-1/Relays: 11-4-2).
Â
For diving, the top 12 competitors will compete in the finals for each event. Finals will immediately follow prelims. The evenings will also feature a non-scored team event where multiple divers from each time will perform six dives (3 on 1-meter and 3 on 3-meter) in order to produce a team score.
