Vols in the NFL - Week 8 Update
November 01, 2022 | Football
Week 8 for former Tennessee Volunteers in the NFL featured astonishing performances from multiple New Orleans Saints, an NFL debut for a rookie and a milestone tackle.
Alvin Kamara has been electric this season. He made his 1,000th NFL carry over the weekend and for his career has 4.6 yards per touch. This week was no different out of the backfield, but he added an extra wrinkle – pass catching. The back was targeted nine times by quarterback Andy Dalton and gained 96 yards through the air. He got into the end zone twice, tying a career high in receiving scores, and found the end zone carrying the ball for the first time this season.
Â
In his last four weeks, Kamara has 591 yards of total offense, including 313 yards rushing and 268 receiving.
His teammate, Alontae Taylor, was lockdown in the secondary for New Orleans. He had three pass breakups and three tackles in his second NFL start. The rookie was targeted 10 times, but allowed just four receptions for the lowest completion rate of any defensive back on the team that had more than two targets.
On the year he has allowed just five completions in 16 passes thrown his way.
Across the pond, Jonathan Kongbo was elevated from the Broncos' practice squad and appeared in his second NFL game. The rookie from Surrey, British Columbia, Canada wrapped up Jacksonville running back Travis Etienne in the first quarter for his first tackle in the NFL. Of note, the linebacker, in his third professional season, has recorded a professional tackle in Canada and England, as the game against the Jaguars was played in London, but is yet to make one in the United States – even though he tallied 51 as a Volunteer in college.
Theo Jackson made his NFL debut in Minnesota with the Vikings. The rookie also recorded his first professional tackle, stopping Greg Dortch's punt return in the second quarter.
