Renie Named SEC Defensive Player of the Week
October 28, 2022 | Soccer
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee junior Lawson Renie was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Friday.Â
The recognition comes after No. 21 Tennessee clinched a Co-SEC East Division Championship with a 2-0 win over Vanderbilt in the regular season finale on Thursday.
It is the second weekly honor of the season for Renie who elevated above the Vandy defense to get a head on the ball and bury it in the back of the net in the 49th minute to record her second game-winner of the season. She was on the pitch for all 90 minutes, anchoring the UT back line that has now posted shutouts in six of its last seven matches.
Renie's pair of weekly honors moves UT's total weekly defensive award count to four on the year, joining senior Lindsey Romig who was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 19 and Oct. 10.Â
Â
Tennessee is back in action on Tuesday at the SEC Tournament in Pensacola, Fla. UT will enter the tournament as the No. 3 Seed and will play sixth-seeded Georgia in a 3:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. CT contest that will be televised on SEC Network.Â
