Track Central: Virginia Tech Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee track & field is set to begin its 2022 indoor season this weekend, as the Vols and Lady Vols travel to Blacksburg, Virginia, for the Virginia Tech Invitational at Rector Field House.
The invitational is a two-day meet running January 14-15.
MEET INFO
Friday's opening session begins at 5 p.m. ET with women's triple jump, pole vault and 3,000-meter run and will conclude at approximately 8:55 p.m. with the men's 300m. Saturday's action begins at 11 a.m. with women's high jump and wraps up at 3:15 p.m. with the men's 4x400m relay.
Tennessee is sending a group of 46 athletes to the meet, competing against 10 schools: Army, Duke, High Point, North Carolina, NC State, Syracuse, UNC Charlotte, Virginia, VCU and hosts Virginia Tech.

TRACK DEBUTS
Of UT's 46 athletes, 10 will make their Tennessee track & field debut: Favour Ashe, Chris Langlois, Dylan Scarnato, Sara Borton, Brooke Dixon, Mia O'Neil, Sarah Schmitt, Nicole Sreenan, Maia Stewart and Charisma Taylor.
2021 INDOOR LOOK BACK
The Big Orange totaled seven medals at the 2021 SEC Indoor Championships (four gold, two silver, one bronze) between the men's and women's squad. Tennessee finished sixth on the men's side as a team with 50 points, marking the third-straight year the Vols have scored 50 or more at the SEC Indoor Championships. The Lady Vols placed ninth overall with 32 points.
At NCAAs, the Vols placed ninth with 21 points, marking the Vols' third top-10 finish indoors and fifth top-10 showing overall under head coach Beth Alford-Sullivan. The women were led by Joella Lloyd as she finished sixth in the 60-meter dash to score three points for the Lady Vols. UT finished in a tie for 40th place among 77 teams at the meet.
At the close of the NCAA meet, Tennessee totaled 12 All-America honors on the men's side while six Lady Vols earned All-America certificates over the course of the weekend. The 18 total honors were the most for the program at an indoor national championship since 2008.

Tennessee returns to Blacksburg for the Hokie Invite next weekend on Friday and Saturday, January 21-22.
