Hayward & Mahaffey Earn SEC Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Seniors Natalie Hayward and Danielle Mahaffey earned Southeastern Conference weekly honors Monday following Tennessee's sweep of Arkansas over the weekend.
Hayward earned SEC Setter of the Week accolades for the second time this season and for the third time in her Tennessee career.
Mahaffey was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
Hayward dished out 68 assists over seven sets against the Razorbacks this past weekend as the Lady Vols swept the series to begin SEC play 2-0. Hayward notched 38 assists in match one versus Arkansas and followed up with a 30-assist night in match two.
The Bothell, Washington, native averaged 9.71 assists per set during the two-match series.
She also picked up nine kills and 19 digs in the series' opening match before scoring four kills and 15 digs in the second matchup. Hayward's two double-doubles on the weekend give her six on the season. She has now totaled double-doubles in three consecutive matches.
Mahaffey stood tall in the middle for UT, helping lead the Lady Vols in their sweep of the Hogs. The middle blocker registered 18 total blocks and 15 kills over seven sets. Mahaffey averaged 2.57 blocks per set with four solo blocks and eight assisted blocks in match one. She added six block assists in match two.
Mahaffey put down seven kills in the first match of the series and eight in the second, averaging 2.14 kills per set. She also hit an impressive .464 during the series – committing just two errors all weekend on 28 attack attempts.
Hayward, Mahaffey and the Lady Vols return to the court Wednesday, Sept. 29 as they welcome Auburn to Thompson-Boling Arena. First serve Wednesday is set for 8 p.m. ET. The match can also be seen on SEC Network.
