Vols In Pro Baseball Update: Sept. 2

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The 2021 Major League Baseball season has nearly reached the finish line with just one month remaining before the playoffs get underway.
A couple of former Vols and their respective teams are in the midst of intense battles for a playoff spots as they hit the home stretch of the season.

Season: 42 App, 0 GS, 3-5, 3.02 ERA, 44.2 IP, 35 H, 20 R, 15 ER, 24 BB, 58 K, 1.32 WHIP
Crochet has continued to be one of top bullpen arms for the AL Central leading White Sox, who have all but locked up a playoff spot. The flame-throwing lefty had a strong start to the month of August and picked up his third win of the year after tossing 1.2 scoreless innings against Oakland Aug. 18.
Yan Gomes -- C, Oakland Athletics
Season: 81 G, 279 AB, 38 R, 73 H, 124 TB, 13 2B, 1 3B, 12 HR, 46 RBI, 13 BB, 61 K, .262 AVG, .303 OBP, .444 SLG, .748 OPS
Gomes and the Athletics are battling for one of the two wild card spots in the American League, trailing the Boston Red Sox by two games for the last spot. The veteran backstop hit three homers and drove in 11 runs last month.
Drew Steckenrider -- RHP, Seattle Mariners
Season: 48 App, 0 GS, 5-2, 5 HLD, 7 SV, 1.82 ERA, 54.1 IP, 40 H, 12 R, 11 ER, 15 BB, 48 K, 1.01 WHIP
Steckenrider has continued to string together impressive performances in what is turning out to be the best season of his career. The veteran reliever allowed just one run on 11 hits and posted an impressive 0.66 ERA in 13.2 innings pitched while also recording four saves in August. Steckenrider has not allowed a single run over his last 11 appearances for the Mariners, who are still in the AL Wild Card hunt.
Nick Senzel -- OF, Cincinnati Reds
MLB: 36 G, 111 AB, 18 R, 28 H, 35 TB, 4 2B, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 12 BB, 16 K, 2 SB, .252 AVG, .323 OBP, .315 SLG, .638 OPS

Senzel has not played since an Aug. 14 outing with the Reds triple-A affiliate Louisville Bats during a rehab assignment. The talented outfielder continues to deal with a nagging injury that has kept him from returning to the lineup for Cincinnati, who holds the final NL Wild Card spot.

After carrying a heavy load for the Vols this past season during their run to the College World Series, it is unlikely that Dallas will see action in the immediate future and is still awaiting assignment after being selected in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft.
Zach Daniels -- OF, Asheville Tourists (Houston Astros – High-A)

Daniels racked up 15 hits, scored 12 runs and drove in nine runs last month for Houston's High-A affiliate Asheville Tourists. Â

Davidson made his professional debut on Aug. 20, pitching one scoreless inning of relief in a win over the FCL Marlins.
Max Ferguson -- INF, ACL Padres (San Diego Padres – Rookie Ball)

Ferguson finished the month of August strong, recording at least one hit in six of his last eight games, including back-to-back multi-hit performances on Aug. 23 and Aug. 24. The Florida native scored 12 runs, had seven RBIs and stole six bases last month.
Zack Godley -- RHP, Syracuse Mets (New York Mets – AAA)

Godley put together an impressive month in August, posting a 3-0 record and 1.85 ERA in five starts for the Mets triple-A affiliate Syracuse Mets. In his most recent outing, Godley allowed just one hit in six shutout innings to earn the win over Rochester on Aug. 25.
Sean Hunley -- RHP, FCL Rays (Tampa Bay Rays – Rookie Ball)
Season: 3 App, 0 GS, 0-0, 4.91 ERA, 3.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, 1.36 WHIP
After a rough outing on Aug. 26, Hunley bounced back to throw 0.2 scoreless innings of relief against the FCL Pirates on Aug. 31.
Jackson Leath -- RHP, Texas Rangers Organization
Season: N/A
Leath is still awaiting assignment while rehabbing from a season-ending hamstring injury suffered back in February.
Andrew Lee -- RHP, Rochester Red Wings (Washington Nationals – AAA)

Lee was called up to the Nationals' triple-A affiliate Rochester Red Wings on Aug. 24. Lee posted back-to-back scoreless outings without allowing a hit on Aug. 27 and Aug.28.
Zach Linginfelter -- RHP, Rocket City Trash Pandas (Los Angeles Angels – AA)

Linginfelter was called up to the Angels' double-A affiliate Rocket City Trash Pandas on Aug. 19 and has made two relief appearances for the team. In his last outing, the Sevierville, Tennessee, native pitched one scoreless inning in a 1-0 loss to Biloxi on Aug. 25.

Lipcius scored 14 runs while totaling 21 hits, two homers and 13 RBIs in the month of August for the SeaWolves. The Virginia native had a hit and scored two runs in his last game, a 9-1 win over Harrisburg on Sept. 1.

Pavolony was called up to the Orioles' low-A affiliate Delmarva Shorebirds on Aug. 17 and preceded to go 2-for-3 with two runs, a double, a homer and four RBIs in his first game with the team that same day. Pavolony had another four-RBI day in his last game, an 18-9 victory over Carolina on Aug. 31.
Jake Rucker -- INF, Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (Minnesota Twins – Low-A)

Rucker started at third base and went 1-for-3 with a run scored in his professional debut on Aug. 25 in a win over Bradenton. The Greenbrier, Tennessee, native has recorded at least one hit in six of his eight games this season.
Andrew Schultz -- RHP, Jersey Shore BlueClaws (Philadelphia Phillies – High-A)
Season: N/A
Schultz was assigned to the Jersey Shore BlueClaws on May 4 but has not seen action this season and is currently on the 60-day injured list.
Kyle Serrano -- RHP, Corpus Christi Hooks (Houston Astros – AA)
Season: 12 App, 0 GS, 1-0, 1 HLD, 2 SV, 7.07 ERA, 14.0 IP, 12 H, 11 R, 11 ER, 18 BB, 30 K, 2.14 WHIP
Serrano started the 2021 season in High-A with the Asheville Tourists before being called up to the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks on June 6. Serrano earned his first career save on May 13 after pitching 1.1 shutout innings against Bowling Green but is currently on the seven-day injured list.
Alerick Soularie -- OF, Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (Minnesota Twins – Low-A)

Soularie was called up to the Twins low-A affiliate Fort Myers Mighty Mussels on Aug. 16. In his first game with the team, Soularie scored two runs and had a pair of hits, including a triple, on Aug. 17 against Dunedin.
Liam Spence -- INF, South Bend Cubs (Chicago Cubs – High-A)

Spence has struggled so far this season with the South bend Cubs, recording just four hits in 11 games played. The Australian went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored on Aug. 21 against the Quad Cities River Bandits.

Stallings was called up to the Orioles double-A affiliate Bowie Baysox on Aug. 17. The Virginia native earned his first victory with the team in his last outing, tossing four innings in relief against Erie on Aug. 29.
Christin Stewart -- OF, Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit Tigers – AAA)

Stewart is in the midst of a solid season with the Toledo Mud Hens, ranking third on the team with 55 RBIs. He is also tied for second on the team with 20 home runs after hitting six in the month of August. Stewart had a four-game hit streak snapped on Sept. 1.
Chase Wallace -- RHP, Columbia Fireflies (Kansas City Royals – Low-A)
Season: 21 App, 0 GS, 2-4, 1 SV, 5.15 ERA, 36.2 IP, 44 H, 27 R, 21 ER, 19 BB, 32 K, 1.72 WHIP
Wallace has made three straight appearances without allowing a run and has given up just one hit in that time, as well. In his last outing, the Sevierville, Tennessee, native had three strikeouts and did not allow a baserunner in three innings of work, earning a win against Myrtle Beach on Aug. 29.
Zach Warren -- LHP, Reading Fightin Phils (Philadelphia Phillies – AA)

Warren has been one of Reading's top relievers this season, posting nine holds and two saves. The southpaw had a 2.79 ERA with two saves and 13 strikeouts over 10 appearances in August. Â
